The sheet music for this piece was found among Jane Austen's estate when she died in 1817. It was written by William Maurice Cahusac in 1802 and made its way to England by way of Germany. The waltz was considered scandalous among the Ton for the way the dancers held each other. Still, it was a favorite of the Ton for much the same reason.
