The Eris Digital Media Glossary
Sensory Anchor:
Static visual, video, or audio insertions that act as dopamine triggers and furnish the 'Surprise' part of the surprise and delight neurotransmitter cascade.
The Sensory Anchor Framework:
The architectural design rules that form the basis for how Sensory Anchors get placed on a page and within the text so they are pleasing to the eye in a way that heightens oxytocin, the connection hormone. This is the payoff of the neurotransmitter cascade.
Neuro-Architecture:
The intersection of crafting, in this case, book arts, and neuroscience, where we design for the reader's surprise and delight. Setting up sensory anchors that make an author's book more memorable and 'sticky' for the reader.
Visual "DNA":
The Sensory Anchor, including its provenance information, showing where it was found and that it is free and clear to use.
Provenance
Where an item is found and any information attached to it, such as the artist, the website, the date it was created, but most especially, the protections governing its use. All items Eris Digital Media uses are either in the Public Domain or they are downloaded through a Commercial Use license, making them 'safe' to use in works you are going to get paid for.
Digital Special Edition
Sprayed edges wear off, Foil fades, and Ribbon bookmarks fray. The things that make physical special editions are fun at first, but lead to a book that sits on your reader's shelf collecting dust. Eris Digital Media's version of the Special Edition is one you can read over and over again. This is something a reader can't get on a retailer's site, but only from you. A DSE isn't made for a 2019 Paperwhite; it is made to be read on your phone or tablet that has a higher resolution and better colors. These work best for authors with completed series and backlist catalogs they want to reinvigorate.
Readers' Sensory Compendia
This is your safe bridge to move those anonymous readers off a subscription service and onto your platform. A note in the back of your book on the service that leads, not to a deleted scene they might not be interested in, but to a visual and audio world-building document they can download or purchase through your store. The book that is locked into a subscription contract then becomes a lead magnet instead of something only paying you fractions of pennies.
Safe Bridge
It does no one any good to pull readers from the retailer's site if it means your account there is closed for violating the Terms of Service. Eris Digital Media builds Reader Sensory Compendia that work alongside your text, not compete with it. Because they are filled with images, video, and sound files, they extend the world you created but don't encroach on the text that is currently embargoed by the retailer.
